Cultural / Social Progam for the 2008 McDonald's Kanga Cup

As well as the various sightseeing opportunities available in Canberra, some social activities for both players and officials are planned during the week.

Saturday July 5

Referee Seminar

5:30pm AIS Theatrette
The tournament is as much about the referees as it is the players and the 2007 FIFA Women’s World Cup final referee, Tammy Ogston, will be dropping by for a seminar looking at the world of refereeing and the essentials to good refereeing.

Sunday July 6

Referees Coaching Seminar & Meeting

AIS Theatrette 11am-2pm
The Referees Seminar is an opportunity for the tournament referees to meet, learn and discuss how they will be officiating at this year's McDonald's Kanga Cup.
The referees meeting will follow the seminar at 1pm.

Officials Meeting

3-4pm AIS Theatrette
While the teams stay are lining up for the team march for the Opening Ceremony, the manager’s head to the AIS Theatrette to receive information and rules from the Kanga Cup Organising Committee. This is also where the team welcome kits are to be collected.

McDonald’s Kanga Cup Opening Ceremony

4-6pm AIS Arena
The Kanga Cup Opening Ceremony will start with the traditional march past of teams. The Ngunnawal people will provide a traditional welcome, Ronald McDonald will strut his stuff and then the ACT Sports Minister will open the McDonald’s Kanga Cup after two players read the player’s oath. Teams need to arrive at 3pm to be ready for the team march.
Please bring club/team banners and mascots to the opening ceremony. The more colour the better the atmosphere.
The AIS Arena has been made available to the McDonald's Kanga Cup, by the Australian Sports Commision.

Monday July 7

Kanga HUB (Monday to Friday July 7-11)

9am-5pm Mawson Playing Fields, Beasley Street, Mawson
There will be a variety of football merchandise stalls and amusements to attract football fans plus bargain hunters after a new pair of boots! There will also be entertainment and autograph sessions with Matildas and A-League players during lunch times.

Host Night

6pm various locations
Local Junior League clubs buddy up with visiting clubs from interstate and overseas and provide an opportunity for participants to meet each other and build the foundation for valuable friendships throughout the tournament and beyond.

Tuesday July 8

Moove to the Groove Kanga Disco

7-10pm AIS Arena
A successful perennial social event, TWO discos actually take place one for U10-13’s & U14-16’s. Moove to the Groove will allow participants to have a fun night out together and enjoy the atmosphere of being together in a non-competitive environment. Prizes will be on offer with limbo and rap competitions taking place.

Coaches Seminar

7.30-9pm AIS Indoor Pitch
Coaches and Managers are invited to attend a FREE practical seminar while their players dance at the disco.

Wednesday July 9

Greater Union Movie Night

From 6:30pm Greater Union Manuka
Kanga Cup participants are encouraged to come along get $7tickets and are able to purchase discounted candy bar items upon presentation of their Kanga Cup identification

Thursday July 10

McDonald’s Kanga Cup Finals

5-10.30pm Greenway and McKellar
This is it – the ladies are doing it for themselves as they put their skills and passion on display in the finals. Good luck!

Friday July 11

McDonald’s Kanga Cup Awards Ceremony

12-noon Kanga Hub Mawson
Special guests will mingle with officials of teams, award winning participants and organisers. The Fair Play & Player of the Tournament Awards will be presented, as will other special awards. It is hoped to have various sporting personalities mixing with the crowd, many of who will have an opportunity to speak. Entertainment will be provided, as will lunch for award winners.

McDonald’s Kanga Cup Finals

2pm Deakin, Greenway and McKellar
This is it – the boy’s finals. Those who have survived a gruelling week of games will be matching up to take away a trophy. Good luck!

Saturday July 12

2008 A-League Grand Final Rematch

1pm Canberra Stadium
Central Coast Mariners and the Newcastle Jets will be competing in a grand final rematch at Canberra Stadium. Kanga Cup Participants with a valid identification pass will get free entry into the stadium for the match.

Jackeroo

Has been busy at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Torch Relay. Not only did he watch the torch go past but was also a huge fan with the crowd, kicking a football with the kids and appearing in plenty of photos!
