Now that Australia is part of the Asian Football Confederation, Capital Football is committed to positioning the McDonald's Kanga Cup as the best youth tournament for club teams in the Asia - Pacific region. In order to assist with the development of football in Asia and in an effort to make friends with our Asian football cousins, Capital Football is proud to launch the McDonald's Kanga Cup Asian Fellowship. For more information and for an Application Form due 30 April, 2008 click here. The AFC have formally sanctioned the McDonald's Kanga Cup and we have approached all AFC Football Associations about this exciting fellowship to share with their members.Oceania (OFC)
An Information Tour took place in New Zealand in September 2006. Interest was expressed by a few teams, so it is hoped that many will come on 'over the ditch' to take on the Aussies. The Oceania Football Confederation are also interested in football development opportunities that the McDonald's Kanga Cup could offer its island nations.North America (CONCACAF)
The McDonald's Kanga Cup has a rich history of hosting teams from the USA at the tournament. However the last visit was back in 2003. The McDonald's Kanga Cup and SCA Tours attended the 2007 NSCAA Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana, to spread the word and attract teams to the 'Kanga'. Contact SCA for specialised travel packages including add ons such as the sights of Sydney and the Gold Coast.
Internationally there is strong interest from teams from Afghanistan, Cameroon, India, New Zealand, Papua New Guniea, Solomon Islands, South Korea, and the USA.
Why come?
- The Kanga Cup is for every youth boy and girl
- See yourself in the beauty and safety of Australia
- Experience Australia's beautiful national capital Canberra
- Take on teams from around the world in fun, varied and challenging competitions. Club, school and district teams choose to come from the various states of Australia and overseas to take on the challenge. This IS the Australasian Junior Club Championship
- On average 200 teams have taken part each year in the 'Kanga' since 2002
- Cup (division one standard) AND Plate (division two/three standard) competitions will take place if there is a minimum of eight teams entered in an age group
- A minimum of four games are guaranteed (games are 60-70 minute durations - depending on the age group).
- Facilities - Although we are suffering from an existing drought, Kanga Cup grounds and facilities are chosen for the high standard and are the envy of other Australian states.
- Organisation - The tournament has a good reputation of being smoothly run and this comes with experience (many lessons have been learnt in 18 years).
- Draws are fair and equitable. There will be a public draw of participating teams on Wednesday 28 May. Where a team is from is taken into consideration to create a varied competition.
- Social Development - Nothing can replicate the team bonding and learning as a group or individual when one is out of their comfort zone. The opportunities to learn about themselves and others abound in the 'melting pot' of such a tournament.
- Cultural Development - From the Opening Ceremony, 'Meet a Mate' Night, Disco, Gala Awards and the Finals, your team will have many opportunities to mix with the local football community and other visiting teams. Canberra also has many free national institutions to keep your players entertained away from the field.
